40 years and a DRR Pioneer

As you are all aware this year is the 40th anniversary of Dunstable Road Runners and we are so proud of how far the the club has come and are looking forward to many more years ahead.

We are lucky enough to have one of the original members Jonathan Venning who is still an active member of the club.

During our AGM he was awarded a certificate and momento to celebrate.

Here are a few words about how it all began from the man himself.

“It all started when Russel Williams started a beginners course in 1982. One year later he organised a half marathon around the local villages and at the same time formed DRR. Running was booming similar to how Park running has taken off. Most of the early races were run on road, there was cross country but that was mainly athletic clubs. I have run all over the UK mainly marathons. Now it’s just short distances. People ask what’s the most difficult thing about running its putting on your running shoes and opening the door no matter the weather!”

Well done Jonathan and huge congratulations from all at DRR 🎊
