Friday 29th February saw many members of DRR gather at Creasy Park to celebrate the successes of 2019.
Club Captain, Tara Quinn, gave a fantastic speech to welcome us and talk about what makes us such a special club (whilst recognising that we aren’t perfect and calling for members to help us improve).
Then it was on to the reason for the evening – celebrating.
We celebrated both running and volunteering achievements before moving on to the voted awards.
It was an emotional moment when Jeannette Eames was announced as winner of both the Marilyn Day and Lisa Langford awards. I’m sure I echo everyone else’s feeling that she really was a most worthy winner. Unfortunately she was not at the evening as she’d just finished running the Benidorm half 😀
Then another emotional award, the Martin Cowley Award. Carole read some heartfelt words from Jeannette and Ian Sage was announced as the recipient of this new award in Martin’s memory.
Most improved runner was Steven McAllister for a second year running – what crazy challenges will he take on in 2020 to see if he can secure it for a third year running …?
And last but by no means least it was time for Mark Peddar (last years winner) to present the Runner’s Runner award. I’m delighted to say Paula Kearney was another very worthy winner (unfortunately she too was in sunny Benidorm!).
So we go into 2020 stronger than ever and I look forward to seeing what it will hold for us all.
