Dunstable Road Runners will again be staging their off road event, The Dunstable Downs 20 Mile Challenge, this year on 28th September 2008 starting at 10:30am. This is the 4th year for this event which has proved very popular with those who have participated.

The Dunstable Downs 20 Mile Challenge is an off road event starting from the foot of Dunstable Downs on the western outskirts of Dunstable. The route has changed slightly to previous years but still takes in the picturesque and popular Dunstable Downs and follows a scenic circular route through picturesque villages in a southerly direction towards Hemel Hempstead, of approximately 20 miles. There is also a shorter route of appoximately 10 miles again in the same general direction. Both routes are slightly different to previous years, starting at the foot of Dunstable Downs and finishing at Dunstable Town Football Club.

There is a walk of approximately 15 minutes from the event headquarters to the start.

It is not a race and is now only open to runners, with a 5 hour limit. The route is predominantly on footpaths and bridleways with some short stretches of road and pavement. Most of the road crossings are made on quiet minor roads.

Detailed instructions of the route will be provided which should be followed as marshalls will only be at the checkpoints and some critical road crossings. We cannot guarantee and markings we put out won't be removed or tampered with.

Although maps are not necessary to be able to complete the course, they provide a handy reference! Checkpoints and drink stations will be positioned around the course providing refreshments for all.

The event headquarters is Dunstable Town Football Club where ample car parking, registration, late entries, changing and showers will be available. Free refreshments consisting of a filled roll, cake and tea/coffee will also be available after the event.
