The Dunstable Downs Half Marathon, 20 Mile & Marathon Challenges

12th Sept 2010 10:00am

Once again Dunstable Road Runners will be staging the 20 Mile and Half Marathon Challenges, and this year for the first year, a Marathon Challenge is included.

Forget minutes per mile, or miles per hour, come and enjoy the challenge of finding your way around a scenic course with a mixture of fields, woodlands and occasional hills.

These are predominantly off road events using public footpaths and bridleways to the west and south of Dunstable with occasional short sections of quiet country lanes.
There are four significant hills to negotiate in the 20 Mile and Marathon Challenges, one of which, depending on the farmers crop rotation, may be ploughed!
All challenges have one of the hills within 50 metres of the start! However once this is climbed spectacular views from Dunstable Downs across the Vale of Aylesbury open up before you.
The events are called challenges and are not races because:
    1. They are NOT marshalled,
    2. There will be NO route markings what so ever, last year some individuals complained that there were no markings, even though they were told this at registration. If you expect markings, please do not bother to enter.
    3. YOU are entirely responsible for finding your way using the route description or Garmin directions provided
    4. YOU are entirely responsible for your own safety on the course and at road crossings
There will be checkpoints at approximately 5, 10, 15 and 21 mile intervals, water and sweets will be provided. Failure to have your number recorded may result in disqualification.
There are no prizes, but Certificates for all finishers will be printed on the day. If you failed to collect yours last year, they are still available!
Route directions will be emailed to all online entrants, posted to postal entrants and will also be available on line. Copies will NOT be available on the day, please don't forget to bring with you!
Route map links for all events will hopefully be available for download to Garmin devices nearer the day.

Post event refreshments are included in the entry fee. These include tea, coffee, rolls and cake.
